Paddle Boarding Day Trip

Paddle Board Austin

Ladybrid Lake Paddle BoardDay Trips from Cedar Park are endless! One fun adventure close to home is right in downtown Austin. If you have never been paddle boarding, a great place to experience this sport is on Ladybird Lake. The tranquil lake is perfect for beginners and pros.

You can catch some of Austin’s famous vibe as you float along the tree lined shores. It’s not uncommon to hear live music or some sort of event in the background. The views of Downtown Austin are spectacular from the lake too. You might even see some paddle board Yoga enthusiasts, now that’s balance!

There are several locations where you can rent paddle boards on LadyBird Lake for your Day Trip adventure.

Texas Rowing Center

Rowing Dock

Zilker Park Boat Rentals

At most locations, you can also rent kayaks and canoes for the less adventurous. Generally weekday rentals are more affordable, but overall it’s not very expensive considering the experience. You can figure around $20 for an hour for a paddle board and around $40 for all day use. Kayaks and canoes are about $5 more. An hour does go by fast, but if you aren’t used to the sport, your arms will thank you the next day for only going an hour.

We usually park on the South side of the lake, under the MoPac overpass off Stratford Drive, just outside the Austin Nature and Science Center. You can also park on the North side of the lake on Veteran’s drive. Depending on the events of the day, the Veteran’s side can be tricky.

If you want to make a full day of the adventure, you can bring bikes and ride the Ann and Roy Butler Hike and Bike Trail which runs along both sides of Lady Bird Lake, making a full 10 mile loop.

For a less strenuous adventure, there is a lot to do nearby. Pack a picnic and head to Zilker Park or Barton Springs. Take a ride on the Zilker Zephyr at Barton Springs and have fun on the newly remodeled playground. There is also a fun food truck park just off Barton Springs Road called The Picnic that’s a great place to have lunch, not to mention other Austin classics nearby like Chuy’s and Shady Grove. After lunch you can visit the Austin Nature and Science Center or the Zilker Botanical Garden. Really, you could make a great Day Trip out of any of these fun combinations on another day.

Closer to home, seasonally, you can also rent paddle boards and kayaks at Brushy Creek Lake Park from the Mobile Kayak.
