If you are a fan of Trader Joe’s, these fan sites are not surprising. If you have never shopped at Trader Joe’s, you are probably wondering what all the fuss is about.
Trader Joe’s might be a little confusing or even underwhelming on your first visit, if you are used to shopping at major grocery store chains. I know the first time I shopped there, nearly 15 years ago, I wondered what all my friends were so crazy about. It took me a few tries of discovering different products before I got into it. What really sealed the deal is when I started cooking more from scratch. I started to discover that not only could I find great products, but it is also substantially cheaper, if you know what you are doing.
Now I basically only shop at Trader Joe’s for 90% of my groceries and I supplement with HEB and Target. With some planning, I can get a week’s worth of groceries (breakfast, lunch and dinner) for a family of 5 for less than $100 a week. This involves avoiding prepared foods, which can get expensive at Trader Joe’s. But their prepared and frozen foods are really good and perfect for work lunches.
Here are some ideas to get you started.
