Summers can be pretty hot in Texas, but the best way we have found to enjoy the outdoors with the kids is to get an early start. Or find a pool. One of our favorite things to do is picnic. Spend the cooler morning hours doing an outdoor activity, then break for lunch with a picnic under a shady tree or covered picnic pavilion.
Here are Best Picnic Spots in Cedar Park and surrounding areas that we have found.
Brushy Creek Bike Trail & Parks
Lake Park – 3300 Brushy Creek Rd Cedar Park TX 78613
There are several places to enjoy morning outdoor activities followed by a picnic along the Brushy Creek Trail system. You can start at the Twin Lakes YMCA with bikes and ride the trail to a number of picnic spots along the way, depending on how far you want to ride. The trail is 7 miles in total. The first park is the Brushy Creek Sports Park where you can find a few picnic tables and benches. Stop for a round of disc golf in the shade too. Further down the trail is Brushy Creek Lake Park, the most scenic of all the parks. There are many shaded picnic pavilions and benches on the shores of the glimmering lake, under shade trees. Relax a while and do some bird watching. If you are feeling adventurous, continue on to Champions Park, part of the Williamson County Regional Trail System. This park along the Brushy Creek trail features a large covered picnic pavilion and other covered and uncovered picnic tables. Finish off your ride playing in the dino dig, a large shade covered sand pit with dino bones buried in the sand.

Berry Springs Park and Preserve

Georgetown, TX 78626
Take a morning road trip to Berry Springs Park and Preserve in Georgetown. This beautiful park is tucked away in a rural area of Georgetown along Berry Creek. There is a barn housing a couple cute donkeys and a few chickens pecking about. The trail meanders through the park along wildflower fields, along the creek to the springs and beyond through the tall pecan groves. There are plenty of places to picnic along the way. This is one of our favorite morning outings. While you are out that way, stop by the Georgetown square for an ice cream treat at Kilwin’s on the square.
