Cedar Park resident and local artist, Karyn Born, just launched a fun new project for all Cedar Park residents to enjoy. Cedar Park Rocks is an interactive creative project that involves everyone who wants to participate. When you are out and about in Cedar Park, keep your eyes peeled for colorful rocks placed all over the city. If you are feeling creative, paint some rocks yourself and place them for others to find.
Cedar Park Rocks is a community-building project meant to inspire creativity in all ages and encourage people to explore this beautiful city that we live in! All you need to do to participate is find some rocks (or you can purchase them at places like Home Depot or Lowes in the garden section) and get creative! You can paint on them, write on them, decorate them however you like. Then go out in our wonderful city and “hide” them where someone will come across them.
Karyn says, “The goal is to get people all across Cedar Park painting rocks so that there are lots of rocks to be found out there. You might find yourself rediscovering parts of our community you haven’t appreciated in a while. Get out and ENJOY yourself!”
If you find a painted rock from Cedar Park Rocks, you can either keep it for yourself, or you can re-hide it for someone else to find. If you decide to keep a rock, you are encouraged to hide a new rock somewhere in its place (however this is optional)!
Karyn created a Facebook Group – Cedar Park Rocks where you can post pictures of your painted rocks before you hide them, or when you find them, but you can also participate anonymously if you prefer. It’s a lot of fun to see how excited kids and adults are when finding the rocks!
Karyn and her kids were inspired to start the project after seeing it in other towns and communities around the country that have been hiding painted rocks with the intent to spread joy and brighten people’s day. Karyn and her family moved to Cedar Park about a year and a half ago and love being part of our wonderful community. She hopes you and your family will enjoy painting and finding rocks around Cedar Park.
All Karyn asks is that you keep it PG rated so that is is kid friendly and make sure not to place them in the path of lawn mowers or on private property!
Happy rock hunting!
